Librarian, Research and Special Projects – Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Los Angeles, CA

DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Managing Librarian, Reference, the Librarian, Research and Special Projects provides a range of reference services for Academy staff members in addition to working on a wide variety of specialized tasks and projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research for various Academy staff members and/or departments required for a wide variety of Academy projects and programs throughout the year.
  • Deliver library assets and coordinate Academy project orders to completion.
  • Manage exhibition loan contracts and deliver digital files to borrowing institutions around the world; participate in the library’s Loans Committee.
  • Assist with virtual reference services, including NFIS orders for remote access to materials.
  • Staff the Library Reference Desk and assist patrons in accessing library materials; resolve patron issues/problems.
  • Assist with the library implementation of LibGuides.
  • Participate in the clipping and indexing of current publications for inclusion in Core Collections clipping files.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of library-wide exhibitions.
  • Assist with library tours and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLIS) from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • 3+ years library reference work experience.
  • Knowledge of film history and familiarity with print and online film research resources.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and library software and databases.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong service orientation and professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, administrators, and patrons.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and remaining organized.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an at times stressful environment.
  • Must be flexible in regard to work assignments as priorities and projects can change suddenly.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, and stooping to access books and filed materials, lift boxes up to 30 lbs., and ascend and descend stairways.
